The Alamy database

Alamy is a UK based online supplier of stock images, videos, and other image material and has been around for a long time. They offer content created by both agencies and independent photographers. The Alamy database also contains collections from news archives and museums.

Contrary to many of the other stocksites Alamy offers both Rights Managed and Royalty Free images – the creator decides which of these two licence he wants to sell his images under. Alamy is also referred to as a macrostock agency – as opposed to a microstock agency like Shutterstock

On demand only

The content on Alamy is available on demand only, there is no subscription model. The price of each image depends on the licence purchased, rights managed or royalty free, as well as the type of use. They do have credit packs if you want to save on money.

Alamy’s website also has an informative glossary of stock photo terms which is useful for both buyers and sellers.
