The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Center – An Impression and Olivia’s Walk for Wellness

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJCWRC), or the ONJ Centre as it is popularly called, which opened in 2012 is a comprehensive cancer centre dedicated to providing leading medical treatment and breakthrough research, complemented by the best in wellness and supportive care.

The ONJ Centre embraces a holistic approach to cancer treatment, which means it not only focuses on people’s bodies but also their minds and spirits. The centre works to help patients live better with cancer and defeat it through world class treatment, integrated research, leading clinical trials and tailored wellness programs.

The hospital could not have teamed up with a better founding champion than Dame Olivia Newton-John to achieve their vision to incorporate wellness into cancer treatment.

A walk around the ONJCWRC – inside the hospital building

In February 2023 Olivia best friend Nancy Chuda visited the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Center, which officially opened its doors in 2013, after having attended the state memorial that was being held in Melbourne to commemorate Olivia. You can watch an impression of Nancy’s visit to the hospital below.

Nancy takes the viewers through the building accompanied by staff member Penelope Sanderson of the hospital. We see the structure of the building and how they tried to maintain some characteristics of the original building as well as how the interior has been decorated. All colour schemes were chosen by Olivia and she had a lot of input overall in what the hospital would look and feel like. We also get to see some of the therapy rooms, such as the music and yoga room. The ONJCWRC is all about body, mind and spirit and was one of the first hospitals in the world to incorporate a wellness center within the grounds. It really is ‘a hospital with a difference‘.

Olivia’s Walk for Wellness

Each year in October Olivia’s Walk for Wellness is being organised by the ONJCWRC to raise funds for the hospital, and especially the wellness programs which were so close to Olivia’s heart. This year will be the tenth edition, sadly without Olivia for the second time. The walk in Melbourne on October 8 will be lead by Olivia’s husband, John Easterling, her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi and her niece and her sister Rona’s daughter, Tottie Goldsmith

Grease

This year a special place is reserved for the Australian cast of the hit musical Grease. Cast members will join the walk and female lead, Annelise Hall, who will perform the role of Sandy, is an official ambassador for Olivia’s Walk for Wellness this year. The Australian production of the Grease musical is also the Official Charity Partner for the 2023 edition of the Walk.

Team Grace Global Walkers

Olivia’s Walk for Wellness is held primarily in Melbourne, Australia. This is where the hospital and research centre are located. In response to Olivia’s international appeal, which still holds strong even after her passing, more walks are now being organised by enthusiast supporters all over the world. The past years supporters have organised walks in European and North-Amercian cities as well.

Antwerp, Belgium

I have joined the annual Walk for Wellness in Antwerp, Belgium in support of the ONJCWRC for several years now. I have done so not only because I am an admirer of its patron, Olivia Newton-John, but also because the ONJ Cancer Wellness and Research Centre has accomplished great things in the treatment of cancer. They offer outstanding wellness programs and are engaged in highly acclaimed research initiatives. The hospital of the ONJCWRC sets an example with its holistic approach which will hopefully be followed by many more (cancer) hospitals all over the world. Besides, the research center, which is an integral part of the hospital, has won many accolades for their outstanding research programmes.

I second Olivia’s statement that we will find a cure for cancer in our lifetime. By purchasing photos from my portfolio, which you find displayed on the pages of this website, you can help raise money for cancer research and support the wellness programs of the centre.

On this page you can watch several video impressions I made of past Walks in Antwerp.
