‘If Not For You’ set for re-release as 2CD Deluxe Edition
Since Olivia Newton-John joined forces with Primary Wave in 2020 a huge endeavor is underway of remastering her albums for re-release as deluxe editions.
The partnership between Primary Wave and Olivia Newton-John includes her catalog of masters and publishing assets which were owned by her. When the deal was struck Olivia declared: “I’m excited about this partnership with Primary Wave as it will not only help introduce my music to new generations but also enable us to create wonderful projects and opportunities for my longtime fans to enjoy while also bringing them new music.”
Primary Wave CEO and founder Lawrence Mestel added: “I have admired Olivia for many decades. Her artistry, philanthropy, and grace as a human being are second to none. She is the definition of an iconic artist who transcended the music business at her peak. We are so happy to welcome Olivia Newton-John to the Primary Wave family.”
If Not For You – Deluxe Edition with bonus tracks
After the re-release of Physical in 2021 as a Deluxe Edition with bonus track in celebration of its 40th Anniversary, Primary Wave is now going back in time with the re-release of Olivia’s first US album ‘If Not For You’. The 2CD-set is rumored to contain 17 bonus tracks – including never before released songs like ‘Round & Round’ and ‘Game of Love’, which have previously only surfaced as acetates. Also expected are some alternate takes and demo’s of some of the regular songs on the album as well as songs which were previously only released as (B-sides of) singles.
Pre-orders for the 2CD set and the vinyl LP (which will be the remastered edition of the original album, and will not contain the bonus tracks) are now available through Rough Trade. The expected release date is September 9, 2022.
Disc 1 features the original 1971 album, including “Me and Bobby McGee” (Kris Kristofferson). Disc 2 features 17 bonus tracks, including B-sides, alternate takes, and 2 previously unreleased recordings, “Round and Round,” and “Game of Love.” This record showcases her first work with longtime collaborator and hit songwriter/producer John Farrar.
More outlets where you can (pre)order the CD and LP will follow soon. With so many bonus tracks and some previously unreleased tracks this will be a special treat for the fans.
Hopefully the remainder of Olivia’s catalog will receive the same treatment in due time. You can find a overview of all of Olivia’s albums here.
